Alkartasuna in Donibane

Alkartasuna dance group parading through San Juan street in Donibane.

September 27, 1970. The women wear the typical costume of the batelera, probably to dance the zortziko afterwards.

There are different versions about the origin of this dance. One cuena was created in Pasaia in the 1960s by Maria Elena Arizmendi and the melody by Pablo Sorolazabal. It honors the working women who paddled across the bay in the 19th century.

Today this dance is performed on July 31st, San Inazio day, at parties, after the popular regatta starring, especially, by women.
